Before we begin: I am raising funds for Tulsa Birth Equity Initiative this Labor Day! I’m auctioning off a free hour of career consulting (a $90 value) starting on Friday on my Instagram.

Tulsa Birth Equity Initiative equips families in Tulsa to have healthy births with dignity and reduce maternal health disparities. TBEI trains and supports doulas who help keep folks safe during childbirth.

I love speaking with writers and journalists about their careers and ambitions, so this is an offering I can stand by for an org I’m excited to support. If you want to talk with someone about going freelance, pursuing your next career steps, pitching, negotiating rates and salaries, starting a personal project, and much more, this could be a great fit for you at a great value!

End of summer greetings, from my extended travels in Colorado and California to you and yours.

My summertime sojourn has reached its end — but man, was it wonderful while it lasted. I stopped to smell the wildflowers in Crested Butte, Colorado. I watched a bear cross Main Street in Mammoth Lakes, California. I kayaked on the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe for the first time. I swam in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean once more in Southern California. Most importantly, I looked into the eyes of my loved ones. I’m grateful for my extended time in nature, and relieved to be back home. I’m sending you all of my love. Stay hydrated, Jillian

My friends from Austin spend every summer out in Crested Butte, CO, and I was so excited they invited me to join them this year. After a flight and a six-hour bus ride from Denver, I was in paradise. I could walk to stunning mountain trails right from their house. Every day after work, we got in the truck and explored secluded lakes and blooming wildflower trails. I saw the stunning columbine flower for the first time and learned what a marmot is. We ate delicious meals at lots of local spots — try Breadery for a nice dinner and Dogwood for quaint cocktails. We spent a day wine tasting in the sun in the Peonia area, and I bought some fall farm treats like pumpkin butter. I even hiked seven miles solo while I (unknowingly) had Covid. There’s beauty everywhere you look. Keep your eyes out for moose, Jillian

Coming home to Los Angeles is always special. There’s nothing I love more than spending time in my sister and her fiancé’s home, playing Mario Party, taking sunset walks pushing her pug in the stroller, piled on by her sweet cats. My aunt held a family pool party for me, and everyone yelled “Here’s to Jillian!” before taking a group tequila shot. I felt extremely loved. I also stayed at my college friend’s home in Mission Viejo, and several of our close friends traveled to her house and brought all nine of their kids with them. Then I stayed at my bestie Fran’s house, and we spent a nostalgic Sunday in Newport Beach. I swam in the Pacific Ocean TWICE, and it’s never felt warmer. My friends want me to move back, and I’d be lying if I said I don’t think about it. Your California girl, Jillian
