What’s Cruel Summer Book Club?
Cruel Summer Book Club is a free weekly newsletter exploring grief, loss and heartbreak, and how we all get through it. Every other week, you’ll hear a personal story of mine, plus what I’m reading. On alternating weeks, I’ll interview authors, psychologists, and others about surviving life’s darkest moments.
Cruel Summer Book Club is meant to be a a glint of light in a long, dark night. I can see it now. Welcome.
*Special thanks to my dear friend and designer Louie Rendon, who designed our gorgeous logo!

About the author, Jillian Anthony:
I’m a journalist in New York City. I’m currently Deputy Editorial Director of North America at Culture Trip. Previously, I was the editor-in-chief of Time Out New York (print and web), where I authored the sex and dating column Let Us Sex-plain for two years and ran NYC's favorite dating column, The Undateables (and made it to Page Six!). I was named one of Folio’s Top Women in Media in 2018, and I’m a speaker and panelist who has regularly appeared on NBC News and Pix11.
My work has been published at New York Magazine’s Vulture, Condé Nast Traveler, CNNMoney, Manhattan magazine, Los Angeles magazine, GOOD magazine, USAToday and other websites and publications. I’ve interviewed the Fab Five of Queer Eye (and took this photo which added ten years to my lifespan), High Maintenance co-creators Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, Roxane Gay, Ashley C. Ford, Joan Rivers, John Early, Jay and Mark Duplass, Bridget Everett, Dr. Ruth, and many more. I once got my septum pierced on Facebook Live.
