I LOVED Big Magic. Absolutely loved it. Big Magic reminds me of The Creative Act, Rick Rubin's book that I am reading right now, and both share the philosophy that ideas are germinating in the collective. And that when they land on us, it is indeed UP to us to decide if we will be the messengers! Thank you for this Jillian, meeting you and talking to you was the kick I needed to take my own book idea, and really invest my time and energy in it this year. (First step: finding an agent!)

I've been reading through The Creative Act for like half a year! Just got it out of the library again. I believe that messages are gifted to us and it's our job to shepherd them—and if we abandon them, that's fine with them, because they'll just gift themselves to someone else!

I am SO happy to hear you're getting serious about your book idea! It's such a good one and I can't wait to see where your idea takes you!

Big Magic is such a game changer! I also found Artist's Way to be very helpful, as a fellow writer also aspiring to lean further into my creativity.

Speaking directly to my messy note-filled soul! (A friend recently brought up the concept of 'second brain' which as much as a cult as it is common sense)

Tell me more about second brain!

I won't be able to make it justice but the broad sense is to utilise tools at our disposal (be it a paper notebook or a software) to jot down things that interest us and arrange them in topics, so when 'the thing' actually comes in handy (usually for networking) we have all the material we wanted at our fingertips, already summarised and connected. So, instead of keeping 50 tabs open in your brain you dump them somewhere else so they don't take up mental RAM. It took a blue-eyed dude with capital investors to make 'note-taking' hip after centuries of philosophy. I can't hide my bitterness about it.

Hm... I do this with my weekly tasks in a Google doc then assign them throughout days, does that count? At first I just do a "brain dump" and put everything in my head and on my calendar down. It really does help to keep those things from constantly running around my barin.

I WISH I could be so organized with all my ideas!

I was catching up on my Substacks and I was literally about to comment on this AGAIN! Back-to-work brain over here. From a creative pistachio to another, hopefully with a stationery hoarding tendency, have a look at these notebooks. I designed them myself! (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CNLVHRMM)

This is a good one! I just recorded a podcast about money where my theme was, "would money want to be your business partner?" and I chatted about the concept that Future Money is watching you with Current Money to decide if it's going to come your way or not based on the way you are treating Current Money. I think the same is true with creative ideas so I'm so glad you're going to give your amazing creative ideas more energy and time. The world will benefit!

I am going to give that ep a listen for sure Catherine! Money and my financial vision has so much to do with how I'm thinking about all of this too, and your own openness with how you've grown in creativity and business is super helpful. You're the best!

I think you'll love Big Magic. You'd probably also love The Creative Act by Rick Rubin. There are some overlapping themes between them and they're both great in their own way

I really want to read that one too, thanks for the rec!

Thank you for this message. I'm currently waist-deep in a massive writing project that feels heavy but uniquely mine to carry. I appreciate the encouragement to not put it down.
